Mobile internet has been quite popular in Europe and North America. It seems that the popularity of mobile internet is also going Down Under.
There is a mobile internet boom underway in Australia, where the number of Australians armed with tablet PCs is expected to triple this year. A study just released has revealed that mobile internet use has reached 50% in the country for the first time ever, as consumers are embracing net-connected devices ranging from eBook readers to gaming gadgets. The number of smartphone users alone that use their handsets to surf the web has hit 35%. While overall internet use among Australians has reached a plateau, the mobile device dimension continues to gain significant momentum. While smartphones remained the driving force behind this trend, tablets were seen emerging as a potent new force. The study also revealed that the most popular activity on the web in Australia was using social media sites.
