Named after George Lucas's robotic creations, the Android cellphone operating system has revolutionized the way that people use cellphones. When Apple's iPhone came out, people couldn't get enough of it, but little did they realize that cellphone software was still in its infancy. With Android, cellphones can do more complex tasks, run multiple apps, and function more efficiently. If you've just purchased a "Droid", or any cellphone that uses Android, here are some tips to help you get used to your new system and start to take advantage of its capabilities.
Apps and More Apps
Of course, there are lots of apps available for Android, and you can download everything from free ringtones to an app that makes a sound like an air horn. With so many apps to choose from, it can be hard to figure out which ones you need. And if you download too many, your phone can become cluttered and sluggish. Since Android is a Google product, using Gmail on your Android phone is a logical choice. It can be even easier to sort through emails on your phone than on your computer. Facebook is another app that is easy to use with Android. Checking your news feed, uploading pictures, and posting a status can all be done with the touch of a button. Another popular internet site that has an Android app is Pandora. This free music service allows users to select a song or artist, and then the site automatically plays music that the user might also like. The Pandora app for Android works just like the website. And though your phone's speakers probably can't match normal speakers in terms of quality, using Pandora in your car sure beats listening to local radio.
